Location sharing with MapmyIndia ReachMe

Trying to tell your friends or anyone where you are continues to be a challenge despite the onset of navigation devices and apps. The problem of last mile or door-to-door navigation is something we are trying to solve with the launch of MapmyIndia ReachMe. The ReachMe app not only brings one-tap location sharing with your trusted contacts, but also lets your friends find their way to you by providing assisted driving directions within the app. Download the app here.

Here is a breakdown of the app features –

• Location is shared in the form or a URL differentiated by a unique 8-digit PIN. You can share this URL over SMS, WhatsApp, Email, Facebook, Twitter or just copy and paste it any other application that you use to connect with friends/family. The ability to share location over SMS removes the need of a data connection on your phone. Stuck in a remote area with no GPRS? You can still send your location for help!
• Your location is sent as a link. When the receiver(s) opens that link, assuming they have the app installed, they immediately see a route from their own location to the one you just shared with them. Voila! It’s that simple.
  They can enable ‘follow me’ by tapping the arrow on the map once they are out on the road driving to you, and their current location will be updated on the map real time to ensure they are on the right path. To you that is. Curious users can also see detailed route steps with step wise distance .
• You will use ReachMe to share your location and receive friends’ shared locations. Every time someone shares their location with you, a history of their unique PINs is maintained along with a time stamp. Deleted a message with friend’s location? Never mind, it is there in your history. If friend’s location doesn’t change, you will reach her from any place anywhere as long as it is in your history. If you just know the PIN of a location, which could be a business like a restaurant, just enter it in the search box and you will again get a route to that place from your location.
• You do not want to fetch your location in the app every time you have to share it with someone. So the app lets you save as many locations as you want as favourites with custom names. Next time just go to your saved PINs and select the one you want to share. You can also edit and delete saved PINs. There is a nifty upside to this. You will always find your way home as long as you had saved that location in the app, however drunk you are, using the ‘go here’ feature!
